I am a pretty flexible guy and I will eat or drink almost anything, but if I get a choice, I am picky about my coffee, mayo, or wine.

I like dark strong coffee, draw a hard line on bargain mayo, and I absolutely need to understand my wine pairing and what I'm in the mood for.

What if the fancy dinner menu on your big date just said “wine”?

You’d start asking: What kind? What flavor? How much? Will it impress my date or client?

If I am paying the bill, I want to choose the best pairing for the situation and menu.

If we put that much thought into picking the right wine or writing down our coffee order so it doesn't get messed up, why aren’t we giving the same thought to our building choices?

Being specific or even picky matters.

One of the most important parts of a building is the WRB—Weather Resistive Barrier. It’s like a raincoat for your building, keeping moisture out and preventing long-term damage. But too often, plans just say “WRB” without any detail—no brand, no performance spec, no guidance - no care.

Having someone like an architect or consultant make the right choices for us—like a barista or sommelier—matters. It all comes down to a solid set of specifications or plans that outline each product to ensure the best decisions for your building.

Skip the specifics, and you might end up with the building equivalent of a boxed, or white label wine.
